トッド夫人、家宅捜索にご立腹

Mrs. Todd： Mr. Poirot!

トッド夫人：ポワロさん！

Poirot： Ah, Mrs. Todd, good morning.

ポワロ：トッド夫人、おはようございます。

Mrs. Todd： I don't know how you have the impertinence to show your face here again.

トッド夫人：ここにまた顔を見せに来るというなんて無礼をするのか私にはわかりません(ここに顔を出すなんてよくも無礼なことをできたものですね）

 Mrs. Todd：You were paid off, you were paid off handsomely. I mean , look at us. We've got policeman crawling all over the house.

トッド夫人：手厚くお支払いして解雇したのに。つまり、見てちょうだい。私たちの家のいたるところを警察官が這いまわっている。

Japp : You're not so popular in Clapham this morning, Poirot. A bit of a wild goose chase this. As far as we can ascertain this.

ジャップ警部：今朝はクラパムでは人気がないな、ポワロ。ちょっとした無駄足だったよ。我々がこれを確認できた限りでは。

Japp : Mr. Simpson of yours is a perfectly respectable young bank employee who happens to have gone home to his family. we have the Shropshire constabulary checking that at the moment.

ジャップ警部：君の（疑っている）シンプソン氏は完全に尊敬できる若い銀行員で、たまたま故郷に帰っている。現在我々はシュロップシャー州の警官にそれを調査させている。

Poirot： I only wanted to ask--

ポワロ：私はただお聞きしたい…

Mrs. Todd： No!

トッド夫人：ノー！

Poirot：Well, perhaps you'd be interested to know--

ポワロ：ええと、たぶんあなたが興味を示される…

Mrs. Todd：No, I wouldn't. Good day, Mr. Poirot.

トッド夫人：いいえ。よい一日を、ポアロさん！

Poirot : It is to me, Hastings, a little reminder never to despise the trivial and the undignified.

ポワロ：私にとって、ヘイスティングス、ちょっとした教訓だ、些細な事や威厳のない事を見くびってはならないという。

Poirot : A disappearing domestic at one end, a cold-blooded murder at the other.　

ポワロ：失踪した奉公人の裏に冷酷な殺人があったわけだ。
