名探偵ポワロ (2) 厩舎街の殺人 Murder in the Mews (2-4)

ドラマの中で気になったセリフ・場面の日本語訳を書いています。

殺しにはいい晩

Poirot : Hastings, my friend, tell me. To blow up the English parliament , was it a sin or a noble deed?

ポワロ：ヘイスティングス、友よ、教えてくれ。議事堂を爆破すること※、それは犯罪かそれとも気高い行為か？

Hastings : Oh, it's no good asking me, old son. I was never much of a one for politics.

ヘイスティングス：僕に聞くのは良くないよ。僕は政治に関しては苦手なんだ。

Hastings : Tell you what, though, What a good night for a murder? I mean, if somebody wanted to kill anybody, nobody would know if it was a gunshot or a firework.

ヘイスティングス：何というか、殺しにはいい晩じゃないか？つまり、もし誰かを殺しても誰も気が付かないよ、銃の音か花火かどうか誰もわからない。

Poirot : But not so good, my friend, if your chosen method is strangulation.　

ポワロ：しかしあまりよろしくない、友よ、もし選んだ方法が絞殺なら。

Hastings : That's true.

ヘイスティングス：その通りだ。

Japp : Or poisoning, come to that.

ジャップ：もしくは毒殺でもそうなる。

Hastings : Yes. you're pulling my leg.

ヘイスティングス：ああ、人の足を引っ張る（からかう）なよ。

Poirot : Yes, Hastings, we pull ever so gently the leg.

ポワロ：ええ、ヘイスティングス、我々はとても控えめに足を引っ張っている。

Hastings : Well, I still think it's a jolly good night for a murder.

ヘイスティングス：うーん、僕はそれでも殺しにはすごくいい夜だと思う。

洗濯屋は敵に雇われている？！

Miss Lemon : You won't forget your dental apointment at eleven will you, Mr. Poirot?

ミス・レモン：11時の歯医者の予約を忘れないでくださいね、ポワロさん。

Poirot : Hercule Poirot does not need to go to the dentist, Miss Lemon.

ポワロ：エルキュール・ポワロは歯医者に行く必要はない、ミス・レモン。

Miss.Lemon : You've put it off once already.

ミス・レモン：すでに一回延期しています。

Poirot : My teeth are perfection. It is sacrilege to tamper with them. But why do we not do something constructive about my collars, Miss Lemon? That laundry is in the pay of my enemies.

ポワロ：私の歯は完璧だ。私の歯を勝手にいじりまわすのはけしからんことだ。しかし、なぜ私の襟をもう少し整えないのか（直訳：襟について建設的な何かをしないのだ）ミス・レモン？洗濯屋は敵に雇われている。
